Burt Bacharach knew he had a hit on his hands when he wrote, "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head," as the main theme for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. In 1968, Burt offered it to Bob Dylan and Ray Stevens and they rejected it. Dionne Warwick urged Burt to offer it to little known B.J. Thomas and as they say, the rest is history.
Well, I tweaked that history just a little bit and here it is. I was inspired to restructure this diddy as I walked through the basement, passed underneath the laundry chute exit and got nailed by a heavy wet towel.
So, I present to you my rendition. Rejected by none and sung loudly by one:
Laundry keeps fallin' on my head
And just like the mom whose ass
Is too big for her pants, lacking in romance,
It's a bit too much, I've gotten out of touch
These clothes they keep fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'
So I just did me some talkin' to my guy
He said he knows that clothes can't fly
It's called a laundry chute
The problem is minute,
But it keeps fallin', it keeps fallin'
And there's one thing I know
The crap they send to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long till Tide with bleach steps up to greet me
Laundry keeps fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean there will be clean sheets for my bed
The underwear is gone
Don't worry, not for long
The sheets will have to wait
I cannot hesitate, there's too much on my plate
The unders must go first
No socks, they are the worst
But it keeps fallin', it keeps fallin'
But I'm never gonna stop this mess by complainin'
Because I'm me
And my services are free
[trumpet wailing pathetically]
It won't be long till Tide with bleach steps up to greet me
Laundry keep fallin' on my head
And that simply means I'll wash your clothes until I'm dead
I only get stuff clean
I'm not a damn machine
Put your stuff away
Before you go and play
You selfish little jerk
You see me doing your work
I'm never gonna stop the laundry by complainin'
Because I'm me
And my services are free

Thanks Carrie--now that song is going to be running through my head all day long!! LOL
I posted some instructions for the blog roll that updates. You have to sign in under "blogger draft" to do it. Apparently it is a new feature that they are testing.
This is brilliant!
Carrie, I swear you should be writing this stuff for a living!
For me, though? I can't stop tripping on the laundry.
You always crack me up!!! You talking about your laundry chute reminds me of how my sister and I used to push my brother downs ours, as kids, into the huge pile of clothes on the floor below. :)
I left something for you on my post today and no it's not a Tag so come check it out, you'll love it! :)
Girl, have you copyrighted this blog yet? You must.
But, I am worried about the amount of time you have on your hands....
This is so great and you are so talented.
Hahahahahaha...I love it. I have two washers and two dryers, and still I too was tripping all over laundry yesterday and today!
Love the song!
OK I remember this and I feel your pain! My laundry is OUT OF CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!
Freaking Briliant!
But with laundry falling on your head all day, I'm thinking you should start getting paid for your services...
Too funny
Yeah, thanks. Now that song is stuck in my head as well.
Time to listen to Lady Marmalade again. That'll get rid of it.
Great! I loved it!
This reminds me of a conversation my daughter had with Grandma.
Grandma - What's Mom doing today?
Daughter - Nothing.
And Grandma wonders why I send the kids over one day a week to get stuff done.
Lol, so funny. When I was about 12 I asked my mom if I could do my own laundry, and would you believe that she said no? She said NO!
OMG...I love it! Get an agent and go out there and sell that song!!!!
You keep me smiling...thanks!!
I too will have this song stuck in my head. How do you come up with the stuff that you do...Its GREAT.
gA! Can't...get...it...out...of...my...head...
That song is too perfect! You are a pretty creative gal!
Are you sure you haven't been visiting my apt., with the laundry that never gets put away or the bedding that still isn't back on the bed.
TOOOOOO FUNNY! I just love your blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can I please be you when I grow up?
Oh my gosh, I am laughing out loud. That is really really funny. And I have to say, I cannot believe that someone with the title "Candid Carrie" was a lurker on my little old blog. You are kidding right??? Thanks for stopping by and letting me know. You put a smile on my face!
That is so damn cute. Congrats on your creativity and thanks for the smile today.
Still stuck in my head. Not even Kelly Clarkson can obliterate it.
heh heh, I make up songs about random stuff too!
That is hilarious! How do you come up with that stuff? I have to agree with the part about the socks. I hate the socks. I would rather wash clothes all day than match socks. Thanks for the laugh! :)
